Your map of Michigan – Circa 1718

In our era of satellite photos and GPS units, we often take for granted the challenging work of the cartographer who was tasked with figuring out the length and width of two unknown land masses. The following is what was considered the are known as Michigan, as highlighted in Guillaume de L’Isle’s 1718 map.

Doesn’t look very much like a rabbit jumping over a mitten, does it?
